The Scarecrows were back in 2022 and what a fabulous fortnight we had.  The sun shone and mostly the scarecrows stayed dry.

And the winners for 2022 are:

  • Most correct answers – Austin Head (All correct)
  • Best scarecrow – 43 (Room on the Broom)
  • Draw from the rest – James Dunn

We will get your prizes to you very soon!  Well done!

Now that Easter is over for another year we can release the titles of the Scarecrows and the details of our 2022 trail here!

#43 – Room on the Broom

The trail from 2015-2019 was organised by Miriam Weisinger and Jane Dobson and we would like to send them our grateful thanks for all their work in keeping the trail going.  We have now returned after a 2-year Covid break, with some of our Exec members now organising the trail.  Yes, we had some issues which were sorted out as quickly as possible.  The people we spoke to and comments received on Facebook have all given very positive feedback.

We sold around 300 entry sheets.  Many thanks to everyone who took part as well as those who made and/or displayed scarecrows.  Thanks also to The Lighthouse Bookshop, Allen and Harris, The Saracen’s Head and Visit Highworth who sold the trail sheets and to Andrews Butchers, TT Linnett and Highworth Emporium for donating prizes!  Your support means we have been able to run a community event enjoyed by perhaps 1000 people and raised nearly £600 for Scouting in Highworth!

Stay tuned for updates about our next Scarecrow trail! We our expecting our next Scarecrow trail to be held from 1-16 April 2023. The main theme will be :- A moment in British history. This could be a moment of historical significance – national/international affairs, health, sport, notable physical achievements, firsts, etc). We are also thinking about a more child friendly addition too.

Watch out for the entry forms for next year’s scarecrows early in 2023.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
