Huron Beavers Sleepover
Huron Beavers had their annual sleepover at the beginning of March with 14 Beavers in attendance.
When we arrived, our parents made sure that we laid our beds out properly and were sleeping next to our friends. Once they had gone, we had a talk about the Green Cross Code before donning our hi-vis jackets and going out for a walk. Unfortunately the weather was against us, so after sheltering outside the Co-op for a little while and a quick refuel with some emergency rations we headed back down to the Scout Hall.
For dinner we had chips from the chip shop with sausages and baked beans, followed by fruit strudel and lots of custard for pudding. Less impressive was being told that we had to do all the washing and drying up!
Next we went outside for a campfire. The older Beavers remembered songs they had learned at our last Youlbury camp, and enjoyed teaching them to the younger Beavers. After hot chocolate and cake it was time for bed. Everyone got into their PJs, found their teddy, and listened to a story with Bamboo. Then it was lights out, and it wasn’t too long before everyone were asleep. The leaders say that the great thing about Beavers is that once we go to sleep we stay asleep … and we slept from 10 pm until 7 am!
Once we woke up on Sunday morning we got dressed, tidied away all our beds and packed our bags. For breakfast we had cereal and bacon rolls. While we were washing up (again!) Steve Treadwell arrived to set the hall up for archery. We all managed to hit the targets and several even got a bullseye. We also did problem solving and learned about wild animals, their tracks and habitats.
Before we knew it, the parents had arrived and it was time to go home – we had all had fun, and as a bonus lots of badge requirements were ticked off and lots of badges will be awarded at the end of term, including some bronze Chief Scout Awards!
