World Scout Moot

Date: 22nd Jul 2017 Author: Scout Websites
Yet another adventure is fast approaching for two members of Highworth scouts. My name is Chloe Sears and in just two days, myself and Matthew Mollart are leaving to join over 5000 participants from across the world, in taking part in the 15th World Scout Moot in Iceland.

The World Scout Moot is a large expedition/camp, like the World Scout Jamboree, however for 18 – 25 year olds.  It occurs every 4 years and is held in a different country each time.  It is where scouts from across the globe come together to celebrate scouting. The moot consists of 4 days at our expedition centres, mine being in Selfoss and Matthew’s being in Heimaland, with our tribes being formed from 4 patrols of people from all different countries, and then 4 days at AlÞingi camping with everyone else who is taking part in the moot. Here we will get to participate in events like international day and get first-hand experience of other cultures and traditions, whilst getting to display some of our own!

Each moot has a different theme; this moot’s theme is ‘Change’, encouraging us to make a change in our lives (no matter how small). This change may be mental or physical; it might affect just ourselves or affect everyone we meet.  With 5000 participants changing something for the better, we can be sure it will affect people both inside and outside of Scouting.

This brings me onto the purpose of the World Scout Moot, first of all, it’s because us leaders like to have some fun too, it just shows that the fun definitely doesn’t stop once you turn 18! Also, like I have already said, it gives participants a chance to utilise the theme of the moot in spreading happiness and scouting spirit across the globe, and it allows us to form links with other scouts from different countries, hopefully opening up possibilities of future international trips for us to take Highworth scouts on, allowing you to experience what is, in my opinion, one of the best and most eye-opening parts of scouting.

I am very much looking forward to it, and will try to bring back many memories and photos to share, to inspire you to follow the same path in joining in with some form international scouting as I can guarantee, it will be an experience to remember!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
