Kayaking down the river

Date: 2nd Sep 2021 Author: Cathy Mollart

On the 1st August seven of the more capable scouts and 5 leaders embarked on a trip down the Thames from Castle Eaton to Lechlade in kayaks and a Canadian canoe. The journey was about 12 km and took us around 4 hours.  We encountered a few obstacles such as fallen trees, swans, cygnets, geese and narrow passages along the way.

Prior to the journey, I had some doubt in myself as I had missed some of the sessions we had on kayaking. Nonetheless, my scout leaders convinced me and gave me a Kayak with a rudder to help me manoeuvre. I am glad I went as the experience was rewarding and the skills I have gained will help me in the future.
