Chief Scout Silver Award Challenge

Date: 18th Mar 2017 Author: Scout Websites
The Chief Scouts Silver award is the top award available in the Cub section which requires Cubs to complete a number of other challenge badges.

One of these is our Personal Challenge which requires us to complete two challenges – one that we choose ourselves and one that our leaders choose.  This term our leaders set us the challenge of planning our own hike route and then, as a small team – to actually complete it!

So today, Saturday 18th March, was the day we would actually test our route!  We started off at Cricklade at about 10am and all being well our route would end back in Highworth at roughly 4pm. Our planned route was about 13km so we knew we would have a whole day
of walking ahead of us! After the immediate ‘Are we there yet’ questions, we set off following the River Thames only to stop about 1km down the track when we thought it would be worth checking our map… we were pleased to see we were on the right track!

Throughout the rest of the 12km we did manage to go wrong a few times but luckily we were never far from the correct path! We had good fun during the hike discussing riddles, finding the deepest possible puddles and of course walking through all the animal dung we could find!

Eventually we got back to the Scout Hut at 4:10pm where we were treated to a Jaffa Cake (or two) and the chance to make all our mum’s and dad’s cars wet and muddy!

We took a few more pictures from the day and these can be seen in our gallery.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
