Apples Galore!

Date: 17th Jun 2023 Author: Cathy Mollart

On 21st Oct 2022 myself and 10 other scouts from 1st Highworth Scouts volunteered to help the National Trust for a day near Coleshill.

Our initial job was to pick up hundreds of apples that had fallen from all the apple trees in the orchard so that they could be sorted and taken to a factory and made into apple juice. After this we had lunch and celebrated a birthday of a Scout friend.

After lunch some of us helped tidy the garden up. This included removing some of the trees they didn’t want and general tidying. The other Scouts were tasked with building a wooden picnic bench.

The weather was really bad all day, the heavens opened and were relentless, we were soaked through and very cold. This did put a slight damper on the day but we did really enjoy helping and we might hope we can go back to the National Trust and help again next year.  As scouts we have done stuff like this with the National Trust over the past 3 years, we have really enjoyed helping them.

Thank you, Liza, for helping us to organise this volunteering and for giving up your time.  You are a star!!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
