We will remember them

Date: 10th Nov 2019 Author: Matt

It has become a proud tradition for the Group to join the parade and service in remembrance to our town’s fallen. This year we had 105 members representing us from our Beavers (who paraded to the church and then made their poppies), to Cubs and Scouts who joined for the whole service. All our members participated in the 2 minutes silence before reforming and parading back.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning.
We will remember them.

Highworth Scouts had our own involvement during the wartime efforts, one of our members was responsible for relaying messages to and from Churchill’s ‘Secret Army’, whilst others assembled some 2000 gas masks, set up a food reserve for use by Highworth residents and acted as casualties for those being trained to respond to air raids.
