Young Leaders are Explorer Scouts who volunteer alongside adult leaders in a Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or Scout Troop. A valuable asset to any leadership team, they play an active role in the section, bringing a range of fresh ideas to the table, and acting as positive role models for the young people they work alongside.
The scheme giving the young leaders the opportunity to learn skills for life such as organisation and communication whilst growing in confidence. Participating in the scheme can also count towards the voluntary section of the Duke of Edinburgh awards or the Queen Scout Award.
The Young Leader scheme is built around a number of training modules which are delivered by the district. Once these are completed, young leaders are then given ‘missions’ to complete to use as evidence of what has been learnt.
The training courses they will participate in are designed to cover the key topics to become an adult leader. As such, completion of the training courses reduces the training required when you turn 18 and hopefully choose to become an adult leader.
