Our Scout Troop

1st Highworth have two very active Scout troops that meet on Thursdays and Fridays. In each troop we average between 25 and 30 scouts.

The Scout Section is for young people, usually aged between 10.5 and 14 years. Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. Participation rather than meeting set standards is the key approach, and for the Scout who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements there are a number of Challenges awards and activity badges.

Scouting is a truly international movement and now exists in over 216 countries and territories with over 31 million, male and female members. We aim to give each Scout the chance to experience an international adventure and in the past have had some amazing camps at an International Scout Centre in Switzerland. We have also participated in a worldwide event known as Jamboree on the Internet and have managed to speak to people from all over the world; including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Australia and Hawaii to name but a few.

A Scout Troop is divided into small groups called Patrols, each headed up by an older Scout called a Patrol Leader, and often with an Assistant Patrol Leader.

Scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team, and participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life.
